Introduction:
Hereby we introduce a simply and novel surgery classification for endoscopic approached to middle ear cholesteatoma.
Results:
We classified middle ear cholesteatoma into four types. Type Ⅰ: attic retraction pocket; Type Ⅱ: cholesteatoma limited in the attic or endoscopic can confirm to clean up mastoid cholesteatoma lesions; type Ⅲ: cholesteatoma not limited in the attic and endoscopic cannot confirm to clean up mastoid cholesteatoma lesions; type Ⅳ: extensive involvement of mastoid cavity cholesteatoma lesions and/or have a potential risk of complications. In addition, there are two special types of middle ear cholesteatoma: Inadequate ear canal “difficult external auditory canal” and congenital cholesteatoma in children.
Conclusion:
Our classification for middle ear cholesteatoma can very easy and convenient to choose surgical strategy for excision middle ear cholesteatoma.
