Dr. Welling is the Walter Augustus Lecompte Professor and Chair of the Harvard Department of Otolaryngology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. He holds a BA in Chemistry, an MD, and a PhD in Pathobiology. His residency was at the University of Iowa and his fellowship in Neurotology and Cranial Base Surgery at Vanderbilt.

Dr. Welling’s research has focused on treatment options for Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). He has served as Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at The Ohio State University, vice president of the Triological Society, president of the American Neurotology Society and the American Otological Society. He is the US
President of the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amictiae Sacrum (CORLAS) and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Laryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology journal.
