Asitha Jayawardena MD, MPH is currently a chief resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where he is completing his otolaryngology residency. He completed his undergraduate degree at Gustavus Adolphus College and completed the combined MD/MPH program at the University of Iowa. He will be pursuing fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology next year at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. His research is focused on the development of scalable and sustainable hearing screening in low and middle-income counties using existing resources including cell phone technology and community health workers. He is interested in evaluating the use of cell-phone based otoscopy to allow non-otolaryngologists to gather important pre and post-operative data to make otolaryngology clinic visits (especially in rural settings) more high yield for otolaryngologists. His current research endeavors are in Haiti and Kenya.
